NECT Annual Report Rationale
The design of the decolonisation booklet exemplifies a simple, clear and professional look showcasing the NECT programs to reaching learners for the educational prospect of unlearning Eurocentric teachings that do not serve the interests of South Africans culturally, socially and economically. The booklet aims to prove why and how Eurocentric education does not resolve the issues of African schooling systems and to provide a way forward to breaking down colonial ideas in rebuilding a curriculum that accommodates creativity and expression in South African languages through African based educational dialogue.
The layout of the booklet is clean and gets the viewer’s attention towards the importance of photographic elements, displaying the core values of what the company achieves. The imagery used is associated with the key agenda ‘the Decolonisation Educational Dialogue South Africa’. The imagery used on the cover page reveals what NECT and NDP combined strive to achieve through educational collaboration as part and parcel to advance the national educational system, visually sending the right message to the viewer. The images have been used where necessary to display a visual view of the content in the reality of South African school life.
The contrast of using black and white images and colour images; is to show a stern seriousness to the subject at hand, to evoke emotion relative to the topic and to exhilarate the content copy for the reader to stay captivated. Consider a large amount of content present in the current booklet… The visible sections of the report have been designed in a hierarchical structure with the use of white space making it easy for the reader to navigate and for legible reading processes. The colours used, are extracted from the colour scheme presented in the NECT logo, to keep to the consistency of the NECT corporate identity.
